Windsor Light Music Theatre presents its’ 119th successive major musical production
Outrageous, hilarious, a teeny bit offensive, off the wall, and the winner of a record 12 Tony Awards are just a few things that THE PRODUCERS is. But it is never boring and you will find yourself holding your sides with laughter as Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom sing and dance their way through the greatest show biz scam that there ever was.
Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor.
It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony® Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night.

The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime For Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. Contains occasional strong language and adult humour.
For adults who like to laugh.
With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”
THE PRODUCERS is, quite simply, the winningest Broadway musical in history. Nominated for 15 Tony Awards, the show won 12, breaking the record previously set by Hello, Dolly! in 1964
The Producers
"More belly laughs per minute than any new musical in years!" says Variety. "The Producers" is the winner of more Tony Awards than any musical in history, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book! Max Bialystock and Leopold Bloom have discovered a surefire way to make a fortune on Broadway: raise millions from little old lady investors, produce the worst play in the long history of flops, and then run off with the money when the play closes on opening night. They think they've found their play in Springtime for Hitler - but anything can happen when the lights go down on Broadway! Contains occasional strong language and suggestive dialogue.
The Producers is a comedy-musical adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan from Brooks' 1968 film of the same name, with lyrics by Brooks and music by Brooks and Glen Kelly. As in the film, the story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. Complications arise when the show unexpectedly turns out to be successful. The humor of the show is accessible to a wide range of audiences, and draws on ridiculous accents, caricatures of homosexuals and Nazis, and many show business in-jokes. The musical was a hit in New York, spawning national tours and successful productions in London and internationally.
The musical opened on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. A 2005 film was made based on the musical, starring Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Uma Thurman.
A national tour of the Producers began in 2002, and the show also played in Toronto and London, where it won the Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2005.
