About Us

Who We Are

We are a group of volunteers dedicated to providing “Broadway-style” live theatrical performances to the Windsor-Essex marketplace.

We thrive on the challenge of planning, producing and executing a high quality performance.

We delight in putting smiles on the faces and in the hearts of the wonderful people who attend our performances.

We invite others who share our passion for live theatre, music and production to join us in our pursuit of artistic fulfillment.

Windsor Light Music Theatre, Good Show!

What We Do

Windsor Light Musical Theatre presents two full scale Broadway Musicals every year. Our volunteers relish in the creative process from designing and building sets, costumes and make-up, lighting the stage, setting and recording the sounds, singing, dancing, promoting the group and getting together with like minded Broadway enthusiasts.

During non production hours Windsor Light Musical Theatre is home to Summer Youth Camp and Youth Theatre Program that runs from October to April.

Further theatrical outreach to the community included Our Cabaret Singers for the past ten years. Here Windsor Essex received personal performances at charity events.

John WatsonHow It All Started

Windsor Light Music Theatre (formerly named The Windsor Light Opera Association) was founded by Dr. John H. L. Watson in 1948 with the goal of presenting musical theatre to the Windsor-Essex County area. The company started producing two major musical productions per year and has continued to do so to the present day.

In the early years the company presented what was at the time referred to as operettas, “light operas”, which was reflected in the name Windsor Light Opera. Since this time musicals have changed and so has our name. However, The Light Opera as this group was known as in the community still produces outstanding shows that reflect the best of Broadway musical entertainment.

Originally the productions were housed and presented on the Walkerville Collegiate stage. In 1960 Windsor Light Opera moved to the Cleary Auditorium, now called the Chrysler Theatre in the Saint Clair College for the Arts, where Windsor Light Musical Theatre stages its spring and fall performances annually.
